Residencies

HAUT offers a diverse range of residencies that embrace many parts of the artistic practice. What is common between the formats is that they provide TIME, MONEY and SPACE for artists to EXPERIMENT and immerse themselves in their artistic development work.

We work to elevate the performing arts in close dialogue with the arts community.

In process

Makes space for physical brainstorms supporting the investigation and the development of new ideas for the stage.

Duration: 1-2 weeks.
Who: for artists of all ages and from all genres, wishing to test an idea or a collaboration.
Where:
in a black box with a simple technical set-up.
When:
at the very beginning of the artistic development work.

During the process it is possible to receive artistic sparring. The residency ends with a WORKSHARING, where the artists share material and experiences from their work and take part in a moderated feedback conversation with the audience.

IN PROCESS residencies are curated through open calls in collaboration with one or more co-curators.

In depth

Gives time for immersion in the artist’s own practice.

Duration: 4 uger

Who: for experienced performing artists, who want to push their artistic practice in new directions.

Where: in a studio or similar.

An IN DEPTH residency gives experienced performing artists the opportunity to research, investigate and rethink their artistic practice. The intention is to develop and enhance the qualities of the performing arts field by giving the artists the opportunity for immersion and the time to ask those questions that are otherwise lost in the production race.

In Seed

Creates the opportunity to develop and situate new artistic practices in the Danish performing arts landscape.

Duration: 2 weeks

Who: Denmark-based artists, with the courage to develop and situate their artistic practice.

Where: in a studio or black box.

During the residency it will be possible to receive sparring e.g. artistically, administratively, organisationally.

The intention with the IN SEED residency is to support the potential of new art and embed emerging artists in the Danish

performing arts community.

In connection

Connects Danish performing artists with an international scene and invites international artists to take part in the Copenhagen scene.

Duration: 2 weeks

Who: for Danish-based and international artists who want to work internationally.

Where: in a studio or black box.

This residency gives international performing artists the opportunity for a residency at HAUT in Copenhagen, and national performing artists the opportunity for a residency at one of HAUT's international partners. The residency is shaped according to the artists' and projects' needs, among other things it is possible to receive technical and artistic sparring, and to have WORKSHARING sessions that can contribute with new perspectives and input to the artistic work.

Together with our international partners and local forces, we anchor the residency artists in the local environment to ensure a valuable international exchange – for both artists, organisations and the industry alike.

To ensure relevance and quality, IN CONNECTION is curated together with our international partners, currently workspacebrussels (BE) and RAS (NO).

In production

Gives the opportunity to work on productions in a studio or a black box.

Duration: 2 or 4 weeks

Who: for Denmark-based performing artists of all ages, who have received support from The Danish Arts Foundation or other foundations.

Where: in a studio or black box.

When: The 2-week residency is for artists that have received development support for a project. The project is in its beginning phase and the artists require a studio to work in. The 4-week residency is for artists that have received funding for a project. The project is in its finishing stages and the artists require a black box to work in.

This residency offers artists who are in either the start-up og end of a production phase extra support in their work. In addition to time in a studio or black box, it is possible to receive professional, technical or artistic sparring and for WORKSHARING sessions that can contribute with new perspectives and input to the artistic work.

Curating is a central part of HAUT's work – not only in connection to open calls, but as a consciousness in everything we do and make space for. We curate both on our own and in collaboration with co-curators, artists and (international) partners. We do this to ensure a DIVERSITY in the perspectives and practices we give space to, and to keep challenging our own view on performing arts expressions and the tendencies that move the field.

We put an emphasize on transparency in our curatorial processes. This means that we always strive to clarify how residencies and other activities are selected or in which collaborations they are born, what considerations lies behind them and who is involved in the decisions.

The open calls that we offer several times a year are an important tool for us to ensure openness and accessibility – and to continuously gain insight into new tendencies and voices within the performing arts field. At the same time, we recognize the value of internal curation, which allows us to work more long-term, create coherence across projects and dive into more specific focus areas in collaboration with selected artists and partners.

This way, we attempt to balance between the open and the invited – with curiosity and responsibility.

HAUT is located at Thoravej29 in the north west of Copenhagen – a building, a professional network, and a meeting point for forward-thinking individuals and organisations shaping our present and future. Below you can find information about the facilities in this building.

In collaboration with national and international partners we also offer residencies and acitivities at other venues.
