In 2021, visual artist Faun Vium had his sister Katrine admitted to bed section 10 in the psychiatric ward at Skejby Hospital.

The sister, in a psychosis, experienced herself as a character, a queen, from one of Faun's earlier works, and a complex, and at the time involuntary, artistic collaboration arose between the two sisters.

We hear the sisters being together where the psychosis feels both grand, beautiful and creepy, in conversations that, in collaboration with composer Amanda Drew, are translated into an opera performance.

During the residency, Vium and Drew try to illuminate the invisible dynamics and power balances that come into play when a patient and a caregiver are tied together in a caring relationship they have not chosen. The exhibition will be performed by Amanda Drew, Freja Højland Høj and Lauritz Thomsen.

The group met during the performance laboratory Klub Kreatur at the SORT/HVID Theatre and developed Dronning Annabell, which was shown in a pilot version in Brønshøj Water Tower in May 2024.

Faun Vium and Amanda Drew have worked closely together on music and dramaturgy and want in this residency to merge different artistic disciplines through co-creation and method sharing. Focusing on social sustainability and mental health, the group uses Amy Edmondson's model of psychological reassurance to examine and provide language to the complexity of crisis where despair, ecstasy and paralysis meet.
