During a 4-week IN DEPTH residency, Birgitte Skands will immerse herself in her practice and performance form Filo-physical dance - an approach and artistic language she has developed over many years.

The work revolves around a transversal intentionality in the human being, where the enquiry does not linger in grief, but lets difficult questions be an opening to something new. A way of thinking where she moves beyond the rational and instead listens to the body, the music and each other. A listening from within that supports the quirky, the pauses, the breathing, the rhythms and the humour - and becomes a philosophical guide and intention for Skands' personal movement language. The work manifests itself in a poetic fusion of movement, sound collages and rhythmic experiments - a bodily archive where personal narratives, performance and cross-aesthetic perspectives meet.

Birgitte Skands will use her time in residency to reflect, systematise and examine her practice. The starting point is her personal archive of sounds, choreographies and movements, as well as new and older practices. In many ways, the residency serves as a culmination of work on ten smaller works created over the past decade - and an opening towards what is yet to come. Her own practice forms the core of the work, while various collaborators support the process; Lydia Östberg Diakité, Simon Valentin Richardt and Carolina Bäckman are invited in as sparring partners during the residency.

Birgitte Skands is a dance artist and choreographer with an academic background in philosophy and pedagogy.
