An examination of pregnancy as both a personal experience and a petri dish for societal norms.
Residence at Godsbanens Open Stage in Aarhus 27.04-04.05.2021
Mette is pregnant. Behind her belly skin, a small face bulges out. The body is changing. The adolescent fades, the self-contained, the infinitely expanding “I” is put on pause. Mette's body is no longer hers -- she is the child's receptacle, she is container of the future.
“Futurecontainer” (Fremtidscontainer) uses the stage space as an attempt to regain the right over one's own body. The pregnant performer will be free and puts her body at the disposal of the experiment. But who belongs to the Mettes body now? Is she even justified in subjecting her unborn child to a performing arts experiment? And is freedom at all possible for the team of performing artists around the pregnant woman, who in their own way have an idea of what the pregnant body is going to do in that particular stage room?
“Fremtidscontainer” is a collaboration between actors Anna-Sofie Fredslund and Mette Gregersen, scenographer Simone Bartholin and playwright Sonja Ferdinand.
EN PROCESSUS is SEARCHES's residency format for artistic development work, where artists with a salary and material budget available have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their artistic process.
The artistic research “Fremtidsontainer” by Anna-Sofie Fredslund, Mette Gregersen, Simone Bartholin and Sonja Ferdinand has been invited into residence through the open call IN PROCESS curated by HAUT's artistic director Naja Lee Jensen.
This IN PROCESS is part of the program. HAUT AND... in season 20/21 and is supported by Statens Kunstfond.
