ULYKKESFUGL (Bird of Misfortune) is a performance-based exploration of grief as a circumstance, or perhaps more accurately, as a presence present throughout life.
The project attempts to interweave Helene Ridderberg’s own experiences of loss and grief with the private and political testimonies of others, with the collaboration of multidisciplinary artists Martha Vesterskov, Sigrid Stigsdatter, and Gustav Lauesen.
Using the concept of the "canon", understood as both a musical and choreographic principle, the group explores the idea of a living, polyphonic culture of grief.
This approach seeks to break away from a single, overarching narrative and instead engage with grief as a mutating figure: at times hyper-concrete, at others fleeting, something simultaneously real and magical
Each artist work with body, voice, and text in distinct ways. This forms the foundation for a mutually informative yet playful approach to methods and references – driven by the overarching hope of exploring and blurring the boundaries between the vulnerable, the awkward, the sexy, the angry, the crushing, the hopeful, the apathetic, the tragicomic, and the life-affirming.
Sigrid Stigsdatter (b. 1990) is a choreographer, performer and vocalist based between Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Through body and voice, text and sound her practice interrogates the addictive, the emotional, the intuitive, and the wild. Sigrid completed her BA of choreography at School for New Dance Development, SNDO in 2017 and her MA in Choreography at The Danish National School of Performing Arts. She is an active member of Jacuzzi in Amsterdam and Dance Cooperative in Copenhagen and her involvement in these collectives and political spaces continues to be a crucial part of her artistic function.

Martha Elisabeth Zingraff Vesterskov (b. 1998, she/her) moves at the intersection of music, performance and choreography. With her debut album ‘Is She Real?’ (2023), she created sonic landscapes where hard-hitting electronic elements met organic instruments and a distinct vocal that moves effortlessly between the intimate and the expressive. She studies Music Performance at RMC and is simultaneously working on her next release ‘Welcome to the Theatre’, where music, body and narrative merge, and where raw honesty is staged through both sound and image.
Helene Ridderberg (b.1997, they/she) is a Danish (performance)maker with training in classical choir, rhythmical saxophone, physical theatre and contemporary dance. They attained their degree in choreography from SNDO in Amsterdam (2025) and is working internationally with their own practices as well as in collaboration with others. Their work is grounded in body and sound through lenses of choreography, often circling around movements of grief, magics of magnified attention and how performing arts can facilitate something honest within its frames of fiction.

Gustav Marcus Lauesen (b. 1996, he/they) is a Danish theatremaker and mimer, educated at the Mime School at the University of the Arts in Amsterdam. Gustav's artistic practice is a fusion of his background in dance theater, comedy, and performance art, with the common thread being a humble desire to bring people closer together. He often works from ‘simple’ images or fantasies that he tries to embody, usually focusing on subjects and themes that have, in one way or another, touched or affected him personally.
