How does one work choreographically when there is no central physical practice? And what value is there in including the full essence of one's dancers in a work when this simultaneously makes them irreplaceable?

In this meeting with choreographer and visual artist Jules Fischer, you are invited to take a closer look at their working methods and processes. You will have the opportunity to hear about what it has been like to work with themes such as change and transience, and to be confronted with COVID-19 in the process. With coffee, tea, and croissants on the table, we give the floor to the artist and dive into their world together. We hope you are curious and want to start the day with us!

Jules Fisher is a choreographer and visual artist who works with performance at the intersection of choreography and installation. Their artistic exploration VANITAS was, in its early stages, part of the HAUT x Bikubenfonden Pop Up Residency in 2020. The work will premiere at the curated guest performance venue TOASTER in June this year.

VANITAS: Flowers wilt, fruit rots, glass breaks. Nothing lasts forever. The title VANITAS refers to Baroque still life paintings, where the things around us are staged to symbolize both transience and vanity. The installation VANITAS is filled with ambivalence, and everything is in a constant state of transformation. It is a tribute to the queer and trans community everywhere and to those who must change in order to become whole.
