During the residency, I want to examine the relationship between binary technology and weaving as part of a larger question of how digital technology can be defined by curiosity and inclusion rather than commercial interests and surveillance.

I want to immerse myself in binary topics and freely associate around dualities, cellular automata (math), information history, punch cards, etc. In order to visualizing this intangible and virtual technology I will make use of a weaving technique with punched cards, the same technique that was used to build the first computers. A special role will be assigned the spider, the archetypal weaver. She will act as a metaphor for a technology that doesn't let itself be tamed for profit-oriented purposes.

Oona Libens (Sweden/Belgium) works mainly with light and shadow, combining science and technology with a poetic visual language in performances that are almost like puppet theater and almost like film.

IN PROCESS is HAUT's residency format for artistic development, where artists are given a paid opportunity to immerse themselves in their work process.

The artistic research” Spider Threads “(Spider Threads) by Oona Libens has been invited to participate in the residency format through the open call IN PROCESS - Experiments and errors, curated by Naja Lee Jensen and Christian Skovbjerg Jensen.

The residency consists of two parts. The first part is a one-week residency at HAUT in Copenhagen (October 2020). The second part is a week-long residency at Inter's Arts Center in Malmö (March 2021). Both stay periods conclude with a public presentation and moderated feedback.

IN PROCESS - Experiments and errors is part of the program haut and... in season 20/21. The program is supported by the Art Fund.
