We feel the urge to seek out the disaster
MARAN - in Danish Maren - is the name of a supernatural being from Norse mythology. The mare haunts people and animals at night, giving them nightmares. She creeps up on the chest of the sleepers and squeezes both air and life force out of them. The victim wakes up in a cold sweat and with the feeling of having been suffocated.
MARAN is a scenic study of man's fascination with fright. The performance is a free-standing follow-up to “Malted Milk,” Skoop's 2011 debut. In the work of MARAN they employ the fear as a catalyst for immediate relational situations.
Man has an inherent fascination with excitement and fright. When we confront ourselves with horror experiences, our subconscious readiness in the face of threatening mortal danger is trained. We are prepared. We are awake. There is a certain satisfaction associated with this state of mind, which has a direct contact with the primordial power that lies within us. The idea that there exists an instinctive desire to awaken the minds to life, we will transfer to the theater and the meeting with the audience.
As a result of a week's exile on SEARCHES, invites SKOOP for a work view and a conversation about the project MARAN. Come and take part in a research about fear, prepping and nightmares.
SKOOP is a Scandinavian performing arts collective consisting of three actors and three scenographers who work beyond the conventional notions of their titles. SKOOP combines visual and physical theatre with performance art, in a theatre space where the audience can feel that the performers are putting something on the line.
During the week in exile on SEARCHES starting SKOOP to test run the tools and methods that underpin our collective creation process. Come and take part in a research about fear, prepping and nightmares. After the work show, we open up for an audience conversation about our horror studio.
