Choreographer and art educator Alex Blum will be at the forefront of developing residency and knowledge formats that create spaces for body- and movement-based art in a contemporary era where freedom of expression, gender and artistic freedom are under pressure.

“I'm excited to be hosting our artists in residency,” says Alex Blum. “HAUT is experienced in the free field as a free space from the pressures of the moment. Our intention is to encourage the entire performing arts field to take more risks, dare to fail and improvise beyond its usual performances. That will only be possible through our soft and generous hospitality.”

With a strong background in choreography, performance pedagogy and political theory, Alex brings both artistic experience and a keen contemporary awareness into HAUT. Her practice is based on the body as a bearer of knowledge and witness — and in a deeply rooted belief in the ability of art to create change. “Each artist's work unfolds a somatic, performative and scenic knowledge of our society. I am looking forward to mapping the physical and lived knowledge from our residencies in order to better understand and intervene in the structural injustice of Danish cultural life”, says Alex Blum.

The Board looks forward to Alex building on the artistic and organisational foundations created by the current management.

“We have chosen a candidate who, in addition to his experience, education and international network, also has artistic and knowledge visions for society. It was also important for us that Alex is very conscious of how the visions should be put into action.” said Chairman H.C. Gimbel on behalf of HAUT's Board of Directors.

Alex Blum will join on 15 May to take part in a transfer period and from next season will take over from Naja Lee Jensen and Betina Rex.
